Trongsa Dzong, built along a ridge
The largest dzong in Bhutan follows the spine of a ridge above the Mangde Chhu.

Trongsa Dzong is the largest in Bhutan and the most dramatic in siting. It runs along a narrow ridge, its walls stepping down with the land rather than resting on one flat platform.
It does not sit on the ridge. It follows it.
It was the seat of the Wangchuck dynasty before they took the throne, and every king of Bhutan has first held the post of Trongsa Penlop.
Corridors link courtyard to courtyard along the spine of the ridge. It is a fortress, an administration and a monastery in one continuous building.
