Start with the amount received
Every provider quotes two or three numbers: a fee, an exchange rate and sometimes a small print line about "spreads". Read together they decide one thing that matters — how many ngultrum land in your family's account.
Type the same amount into each provider's calculator — say A$500 to Bhutan — and write down only the final figure the receiver gets. That single column is the whole comparison. A provider with a "zero fee" can still be the most expensive if its rate is poor.
Then check the clock and the doorway
Speed decides whether your money is useful. "Arrives in minutes" and "arrives in 2-3 business days" are very different when rent is due.
Payout method decides whether it is useful at all. Some providers send to a bank account, some only to cash pickup, some to a mobile wallet. Ask your family which one they can actually collect from.
The five-minute drill
Minute one: list three providers. Minutes two to four: enter the same amount in each and note the amount received, the fee, the speed and the payout method. Minute five: pick the best combination of received amount and speed, and keep the receipt.
Check the rate again on the day you send — it moves. And you can save the whole drill by using the comparison table above: sort by "cheapest", filter by "cash pickup", and it does the arithmetic for you.
The one thing to take away
Compare the amount your family actually receives, not the rate or the fee on its own.
