Newcomer checklist

The first things to do in your first weeks in Australia. Tick as you go.

• Get a SIM card and an Australian phone number
• Open a bank account (take your passport and proof of address)
• Apply for a tax file number (TFN)
• Give your employer your bank details and TFN
• Set up a myGov account and link the tax office
• Arrange health cover or check your visa's conditions
• Find your transport card and your nearest supermarket
• Save the emergency numbers: 000 for police, fire and ambulance
• Join a community group or a local Bhutanese network
• Set a monthly amount to send home, on payday
