Student visa checklist

The order to do things in, and the one rule that keeps you safe from bad advice.

Get the documents in order

A student visa application turns on a chain of documents: a confirmation of enrolment, proof of identity, evidence of English, evidence you can support yourself, and health and character checks. Each one takes time, so gather them in parallel, not one after another.

The official checklist for your country is the only list that matters. Country requirements differ, and they change.

Apply, then understand the conditions

Apply through the official channel, keep your receipt and reference, and do not book travel until the visa is granted. Your visa carries conditions — including how many hours you may work and when you may start — and those conditions are what you must follow.

Keep your contact details and your enrolment current. A message you do not receive is still a message you are responsible for.

The one rule

This platform is not a migration adviser and gives no legal advice. For a decision this important, use the official department, or a registered migration agent, and check the registration.

Anything that feels like pressure to pay quickly for guaranteed approval is not advice; it is a risk.

The one thing to take away

Work from the official checklist, in order, and never take legal advice from anyone but the source.

Always check the official source. Rates, fees and rules change.
