TAFE vs university: which is right for me
The honest trade-off between time, cost, hands-on skill and theory.

The real difference
TAFE and vocational providers teach practical, job-facing skills, usually in a shorter time and at lower cost, with a qualification aimed at a trade or a specific role. Universities teach theory in depth over longer degrees, aimed at professions and further study.
Neither is superior. A licensed trade can out-earn a general degree; a degree opens doors a certificate does not. What matters is the job you are aiming at.
The questions to ask yourself
Do you learn by doing or by reading? How long can you afford to study before you need income? Does the job you want require a licence, a degree, or either? Can a shorter qualification be a stepping stone with credit towards a degree later?
Pathways matter: many people start vocational and articulate into a degree, carrying credit across.
Check before you commit
Check that the qualification is the one employers in your field ask for, and that the provider is registered. Fees and visa rules differ by course and provider and change over time.
Confirm the current requirements with the provider and the official registers before you enrol.
The one thing to take away
Choose by the job and the way you learn, not by which sounds more impressive.

Always check the official source. Rates, fees and rules change.
